The Norwegian puppet film Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (in Norwegian “Flåklypa Grand Prix”) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

That the film, so many years after its premiere, would still be popular worldwide, and remain the most-watched Norwegian film of all time, is something very few could have predicted. Nevertheless, the anniversary has only strengthened its popularity, and it is once again triumphing in Norwegian cinemas.

One of the reasons for the film’s lasting appeal is Bent Fabricius-Bjerre’s iconic music.
At a time when Fabricius-Bjerre’s film scores were often centered around one strong main theme and variations of it, Pinchcliffe Grand Prix stands out with a wealth of memorable themes.
Most iconic of all is “Norwegian Sunset”, played by the character Theodore Rimspoke on his harmonica, which has since become a part of the Norwegian musical canon.

To underline the film’s – and the music’s – popularity, 2025 saw the world premiere of “Flåklypa Grand Prix in Concert”, where the entire film is screened with the score performed live.
They have toured all over Norway and – fully deserved – played to sold-out houses wherever they have been.

We are celebrating the anniversary with a special “50th Anniversary Edition” of the soundtrack.

This marks the very first time the music is being released on vinyl, and for this edition we have created an entirely new master to ensure the best possible sound quality.
One of our main focuses has been to restore the music to the tempo at which Bent Fabricius-Bjerre originally recorded it.

The music was originally recorded to a tape machine that ran slightly too slowly compared to the ones used in cinemas. This meant that Bent’s music was a little too long, and so it became necessary to increase the playback speed – and therefore also the pitch – slightly.

We have corrected this for this release, allowing you to enjoy the music exactly as Bent Fabricius-Bjerre intended.

We expect to ship all pre-orders on December 8, 2025. The official release date is December 15, 2025.
